Anna Paquin was born in the city of Winnipeg. She grew up in the city of Wellington. She became an actor in the role of Flora McGrath, a character in the romantic drama film"The Piano. Born in Winnipeg and raised in Wellington Paquin made her acting debut playing Flora McGrath in the romantic drama film The Piano for which she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 11 which made the youngest recipient of the award in Oscar history. She was young and lacked previous acting experience. When she was a teen, she moved from New Zealand to United States. Paquin played a minor role in the film's title role when she was a child in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996) as well as she was a leading character in the movie Fly Away Home (1996). Paquin played Frankie Addams in a 1997 television movie adaptation of Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding and also played a part in the title role as Queen Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). She portrayed teenagers on the screen in Hurlyburly (1998) She's All That (1999) and A Walk on the Moon (1999) and played the groupie Polexia Aphrodisa as a character in Almost Famous (2000).
